Now when changing the internet service provider, you can get the service of the new one on the old router

Now, any router and device placed by an internet service provider at a customer's home will also support the network of another service provider. Nepal Telecommunication Authority has arranged that the service provider should be interoperable (supporting each other's network) in the devices used at the customer's home.

The regulator has taken this step with the aim of managing it. The recently held meeting of the authority board has taken this decision after studying the standards of devices used in the customer's homes and the impact it has on the quality of service and security challenges.

The board has passed the standard called 'Minimum Requirement of CPE Device'.

Provisions to be adopted by service providers have been made in it. According to which, the device placed in the customer's home should be 'interoperable'.

However, it is said that this arrangement will be applicable only if the customer has paid money for devices such as routers. The authority expects that this will help customers to end the hassle of changing routers every time they change internet service providers and also help reduce electronic waste.
