The prices of vegetables are increasing day by day in Kathmandu city. The winter season normally brings the fresh vegetables to the market but this year it seems to be different. The vegetables are generally in high demand as a vast majority of the consumers in Kathmandu.
One of the consumers says that, we are buying tomato at high rates and about 15 to 20% of the tomatoes are being damaged during transport. It is selling at Rs 120 in the Kalimati bazaar and in the open market in Rs 150. Capsicum was sold at Rs 60, Onion at Rs 80, Potatoes at Rs 200, and Lady Fingers at Rs 70 at Kalimati bazaar on Wednesday. Their cost in open market is generally higher by Rs 20 -30 based on the demand. The shopkeepers say that, this year vegetables are increasing because of the lack of production of vegetables by farmers and heavy rainfall occurred in the field which highly worst in vegetables prices.
According to the Vegetable Seller, this year vegetables prices are 30% higher than the previous year.
